Once I was approach by a government official. He asked me, who do you think the responsible person behind Bali's act of terror on October 12, 2002. I said, the person is not important and event most of industrialized countries, including Indonesia defense minieter, Matori Abdul Jalil, clearly pointed out the name of Al-Qaeda network.
Furthermore I stressed, the problem of Bali tragedy is actually not to the person who made it. We have to concentrate to review what is actually happened in Indonesia recently. Then try to improve it and making an extraordinary effort of disclosing all the ways the government have done to tackle the incident. Together with investigation and transparency, the government, including private sector should hand by hand making a tremendous movement to develop Bali and the whole Indonesia together in full speed without expecting reward.
Without October 12, actually Indonesia is already dying. Not only in terms of money but most important in terms of psychological effect in the society.
A vocal Indonesian activist, HS Dilon, frankly told the press, "Spirit and nationalism in the heart of the people of Indonesia, including the trust to President Megawati, have been overcasted, while the economic crisis for almost 5 years not yet recover."
Complicated problem in Indonesia is actually based on the moral of some elite political persons in Indonesia. An easy example is the decision of the court to the chairman of Indonesian parliament Akbar Tanjung. He was sentenced guilty and has to go to the jail directly. But in fact, he is still free like there's no court decision at all and the top management of the party, Golongan Karya, supported him full of what he did.
Another example is the head of Indonesia public prosecutor uncovered billions rupiah asset that should been reported to the tax office. According to his promise when he was installed as a public prosecutor, he will resign immediately if such kind of matter happened to him. Now it happened but the person won't leave the office, pretending nothing happen with him.
Then the planning minister, Kwik Kian Gie recently also mentioned openly that corruption in Indonesia is already a culture making the stronger image of Indonesia as the most corrupted country.
All of those proved telling the world actually that Indonesia is really in a deep trouble, not only physically but also in terms or morality.
Terrorists knew well this weaknesses and make it as their benefit to show to the world that they are exist and getting stronger. Meanwhile Indonesia as a test country for them is only a way to approved and proceed to their plans to fight the target.
On the case of Bali tragedy, we still don't know the actor behind the screen. Definitely that is the act of terror and Jamaah Islamiyah and or Al-Qaeda, especially by United states have been pointed out as the most responsible parties.
This is actually one scenario that a truly terrorist organization attacking Indonesia especially westerner who were gathered in a night club in Bali. The bomb also hit the gate of US consulate in Bali. This act is really terrible and was condemn by all people of the world. Even Megawati that never using a strong word during her 2 years presidency, for the first time she seems very angry by using some strong and attacking words to the terrorists on her comment and speech recently.
Another scenario of bombing Bali is to weaken the Indonesian government, done by local or opposition or the people who hate so much Megawati. This is clearly means to topple down her presidential seat.
Frankly speaking, this scenario is not strong enough to support the real condition in Indonesia. The reasons are backed to the characteristic of Indonesian people. Never ever in the mind of Indonesian people to topple down the president through this sadistic action, bombing and killed at least 190 people.
If the people, opposition or whoever hate so much the President, the people will do the peace way, either by demonstration by people power like as the end of Soeharto era or by using the legislative way like as the end of Abdurrahman Wahid presidency.
Yes, we could see the civil war in Maluku between Islam people and Christian people that even had been attracted to the attention of Pope in Vatican. The same war also happen in the past. But all contradictions are not to tople down the President by using a harshly act like killing hundreds of civilian.
We could say maybe yes, in the past no experience of using forces, killing innocent people to topple down President. But not in this time and on the future. Fine. Let see the characteristic, behavior, attitude and environment of Indonesian people with 99% have their own religion, most of them 85% as moslem and the rest is Christian, Hindu and Budha.
With the character as a forgiveness people, having their own religion, and a present of majority and dominantly Javanese culture as a center of the government power, for me as Indonesia, I could say impossible to have an "internal war", killing each other to make a kind of coup d'etat.
Therefore this scenario i not strong enough to support the reason behind the bombing in Bali.
Then, let see the third scenario.
Dr Ir Dimitri Mahayana, Indonesian futurolog said recently, "US is the most happy maybe, gaining a lot of benefit after eleven of November tragedy. They could have a new narration of the myth regarding international terrorism. That all terrorist is probably anti-western (people)."
The professor from a famous university in Bandung, Indonesia, also mentioning Bali's Bomb and, "US could easily connecting Bali tragedy with terrorism, especially Al-Qaeda and international terrorism. This is really very dangerous," he stressed.
His hypothesis could be means that US is actually behind the screen to make Indonesia believe and support the US on anti-terrorism project, that maybe also including the plan attacking Irak that still have difficulties to gain support from US allies in some European countries until now. And now US looks to Asia to have that kind of same support. The US in a certain extent could not give us an evidence that Osama bin Laden is the man behind the down fall of World Trade Center building.
To cover the muslim reason, the professional mercenaries hired by the US using Bali as Hindu place. So that nobody will expect the US is on the behind screen of this attact.
Like Adolf Hitler said, the truth is losing our way, times thousands. Therefore, "Please do not become our rational criticism to the sentiment of Islam becomes forgotten," said Dimitri,
All people from different religion, culture and others, could sit together and concentrate or focus to the main problem to solve it as soon as possible.
We could see the three scenarios above and one of them is certainly the main actor of the tragedy.
Bali is really crying laud nowadays. The gate of money and the golden child of Indonesia has been struck by a devil people and disorder in some parts.
For me, Bali is not belongs only to Indonesian. Bali is belongs to the world community who loves peace, who loves culture, who loves culture, who loves friendship and whos love understanding each other.
That is why some people said as the land of God.
Please help Bali. By doing that we actually helping ourselves who I believe has a feeling of loving each other, regardless of your ethnics, religions, groups and nations.
This is what we have to do. We have to hand by hand, looking each other with love, and even we recognize the people who did that things in Bali, we should forgive him and or her. But still they have to proceed to the court as the law is our guard of justice for all.
Without international help, Bali will getting worst and suffer from the worldwide community.
